What this is for

Children don't usually say they're struggling. They show it — in sleep, in play, in sudden fear of ordinary things, in behavior that gets read as defiance when it's actually a nervous system trying to manage something too big for words. This work is for children processing loss, a frightening event, or an ongoing unsafe situation, using play-based methods that let them express what they can't yet say directly.

What this is not

A single hour a week cannot repair a week spent in a home that is unpredictable or constantly shaming. If a child returns from a session to that environment, therapy alone will not be enough — and pretending otherwise would not be honest. If the underlying need is more about compliance and discipline than about trauma or grief, this is not the right fit, and that's worth knowing before starting rather than after.

How sessions work

Age-appropriate, play-based approaches that let a child express fear, confusion, or grief in ways that feel natural rather than forced. Parents are part of the process in age-appropriate ways, without requiring a child to perform their pain on demand.

Is this the right kind of help?

A few questions worth answering privately before you reach out:

  • Was there a frightening, destabilizing, or loss-related experience — or do you suspect one?
  • Has the change lasted more than a few weeks, and spread across sleep, school, or relationships?
  • Is the main goal help with trauma or grief — or help making your child more compliant at home?
  • Would your child return from a session to a home that is reasonably safe?

If your honest answers point toward behavior management or an unsafe household, this is probably not the right practice for your child right now — and a short conversation can still help you find a better-fit referral. That's a success, not a rejection.
